The ingredients needed to make Idli:
  1. Make ready 1/2 cup Urad dal
  2. Take 2.5 cup Idli rice/White rice
  3. Get to taste Salt
  4. Prepare Poha (optional) (1/4 cup)
  5. Prepare Fenugreek seeds 1/2 tspn
  6. Make ready Dry yeast (needed in cold country)
  7. Prepare Fermenting and steaming steps
  8. Make ready Wash and soak urad dal and rice
  9. Get (6 hours)
  10. Prepare Grind dal,rice,fenugreek seeds (add yeast and salt) mix well
  11. Prepare Set the grinded/blended smooth batter aside in warm place
  12. Take Let it ferment and rise for 8 to 14 hours(depending the weather)
  13. Take (The batter need to ferment untill it rises)
  14. Prepare On a high flame, bring water to boil in an idli steamer pot
  15. Take Mix the idli batter gently
  16. Get Pour into the batter into greased tray
  17. Prepare Cover the pot with lid
  18. Prepare Let the idly steam for 10 minutes
  19. Prepare Once done, Remove the idly trays
  20. Get Let it cool down for 1 minutes
  21. Take With a help of a spoon remove idli from the tray

It has a mellow flavour, which gives scope for the accompaniment to shine. Idli is a standard South Indian breakfast item in the South, supplemented with a small quantity of some other dish.
