Its very popular in other parts of Kerala also during the Ramadan (Ramazan) fasting time. It is prepared by filling smashed bananas stuffed with cashew nuts, raisins and rice flakes. Unnakaya recipe, Unnakai (also called Unnakaya, Kai Ada, Unnakka, and Kai Porichathu) is a spindle-shaped sweet dessert made of steamed and mashed plantain and stuffed🥥.

The ingredients needed to make Unnakaya:
  1. Get 2 ripe Plantains
  2. Make ready 3/4 cup Coconut
  3. Make ready 3 tbsp Sugar
  4. Take 1 tbsp Raisins
  5. Take 1 tbsp Cashews
  6. Make ready 1/4 tsp Cardamom powder
  7. Make ready 2 tbsp Ghee
  8. Take Coconut Oil for frying

So, yes this is for the health conscious people. Method: Cut the banana in half. Now let the banana cool a bit, peel off the skin and mash it well. Divide it into equal portion and set aside.

Steps to make Unnakaya:
  1. Steam the plantains for 6-8mins
  2. In the meantime heat ghee throw in raisins n nuts and saute for fews secs….then add grated coconut and saute for few secs n tip in elaichi powder and sugar and give it a good mix and take of from flame…..
  3. Peel the plantains…then cut open and remove the black thing from inside and mash them using a masher nicely…
  4. Grease your hands with oil take a lemon size ball and flatten it on your palm and place a tbsp coconut mixture… then wrap n seal it using your fingers and form spindle shaped fritters
  5. Heat oil for deep frying and drop them into the hot oil and fry till golden brown…..
